Dear subscribers,

Today I read that wanting to close down our socials on impluse is very “ADHD”. Hmmm… I relate to that. It’s kinda been my life for the last couple of years, when I pivoted my business and kept changing its direction.

When I decided to take my six-month sabbatical, I had grand notions of getting back into blogging. First I tried to resurrect my weight loss blog, and when that didn’t feel quite right, I switched to Autumn Diaries and more general musings about life. I had visions of writing in coffee shops sipping lattes, or on our patio overlooking our luscious garden on beautiful summer days. Alas, I am just not feeling it, and I don’t think my readers are, either, because engagement is way down. The online world has changed a lot since I got into blogging over 20 years ago. Between everyone sharing their thoughts and lives on the internet, and now AI exponentially exploding consumable content, it’s become a very noisy place.

I’ve started and closed my personal blog so many times over recent years, trying to recreate the coziness and connections of the old blogging days. But I finally have to concede… they are gone.

But it’s not just the online world that has changed. I have, too.

As I get older – especially during these uncertain and volatile times – I am craving more simplicity, calm, and stability. I am doing a lot of purging and decluttering in my home, and I want to do the same in my online life:

• I still love my online business and will return to it in the fall as planned, although it may look a little different (all part of the simplification).

• I still love photography and microblogging, and will continue to share my photos and stories on Instagram, my one consistent social media channel.

• I still love writing, and do so in my journals and my business newsletter (which will also resume in the fall).

Other than that, I am more focused on my offline life. Right now, I am enjoying the beginnings of summer, my veggie garden, bicycling, and taking photos. Maybe I’ll learn to fly our plane! Maybe I’ll learn how to paint. I am still on my weight loss journey and have lost 15 lbs from my highest weight last year, with the help of my sensible diet, support, and journaling.
